The EL-TRAN Consortium
Works to rethink the totality of the electric energy system
How to use resources more efficiently to produce electricity and heat?
How to design and scale the electricity transmission grid?
How to best support flexible consumption of electricity?
How do we ensure the whole electric energy system – including the use of electricity in the transport, housing and building sectors – becomes more climate neutral?
While the main thrust of our work concentrates on Finland, we also make comparisons to the energy transitions underway in the Nordic countries, Germany and beyond. These transitions involve policy problems which we wish to help resolve.
The Consortium is coordinated by the University of Tampere. It is part of the programme ’A Climate-Neutral and Resource-Scarce Finland’. This programme is funded by the Strategic Research Council. The EL-TRAN consortium is funded 3.2Me during 2015-17.
